‘Memory is the last drop that never ends, memory will never dry out’
A four-day performance using a knit typewriter, time-served wool blankets from the hotel and words from guest books to produce an on-site textile installation. The hacked knitting machine uses open source hard-and software to have real time control over the needles and knit digital patterns. The performance and product, tangible and intangible, celebrated the memory of Brooklyn Arts Hotel through an expanded relational and material practice.
Rute Chaves is a research-based artist performing experimental material investigations through critical approaches to sustainability. The object is not seen as a result in itself but as a conversation and invitation to look into the significance of objects and practices as socio-cultural conduits. Their studio work focuses on collaboration and open source processes; the re-interpretation of craft in a digital context and the social impact of craft as expression.
