Vasili occasionally places versions of this work, ‘Apollo Bird Feeder’ on pedestals across public locations as an offering to the local avian population. The sculptures are akin to the offerings that ancient Greeks and Romans made in order to appease an angry deity. As an offering to the gods of Brooklyn Arts Hotel, in this case it's about making amends for a nature that has been sacrificed in favour of urbanisation.
Vas Pittas is a Melbourne born designer. In 2013, he completed his Furniture Design studies at RMIT which has led to an experimental design practice focusing on sculpture and object design. Central to Vas’ inspiration and thought process is his rural Greek heritage which is most evident in the ‘Apollo Bird Feeder’, originally designed in 2017.
